Season 1 episode 4 of the chosen focuses on the fishermen Simon and Andrew. Simon is also named Peter. They are the future disciples of Jesus. Simon represents listening or hearkening and his later given name Peter represents faith. Peter’s brother Andrew represents strength. They are the powers of man that can navigate the sea of unconscious and catch great ideas of man in the waters of unconscious. When faith is challenged by being pulled into earthly and material matters, like Simon worries about the debt he has to pay and his mother in law becoming sick, then faith needs to be restored by strength. Simon’s brother Andrew is the first to bring him the news of the Messiah has come. The Messiah is the Christ and for Simon it means that the possibility of the best possible version of him can manifest.

In “The Chosen” series there is an inversion of symbology where the disciples can be seen as an extension of Jesus, or Jesus can be seen as a reflection of the best potential of the disciples. For instance Simon is the main character of this episode, so when Jesus is shown in this episode, Jesus can be thought of as the representation of Simon’s best potential manifesting. Conversely, Jesus is the main character of all the stories and the whole series, so Peter can then be seen as the mental faculty being established within Jesus.

In another video I did on season 1 episode 1 I walked through how Jesus was reconciled with Mary and this symbolic inversion could also be seen. No matter what tv show or movie a person is watching, all the characters can be narrowed down to one person, and ultimately that is the person who watches. This means that the characters are reflections of ours own self. When watching other tv series like Breaking Bad or Sopranos it is easier to have conflict within as a watcher as things are turbulent in the reconciliation of opposites when following characters who constantly sin and remain within ego consciousness. Therefore, it is an entirely different experience to follow the characters in The Chosen because the obstacles the disciples face are meeting their own weaknesses in themselves, but when Jesus is met with obstacles he is already reconciled within and it is the outside where the opposites begin to be present. It is in others who follow him and the reactions of the pharisees where the viewer finds conflict represented. Conversely, all the reaction and conflict that arise outside of Christ can be seen as unavoidable reactions of him telling the truth and living his life to the fullest, but because he prays in the upper room and holds his ground no matter what because he knows God is within him, it does not matter what happens to him because he is eternally protected through life and death. Jesus has not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it, which means that he is the embodiment of divine law. This means that in the end what is good is not necessarily conceived as good in the general perception. The pharisees have established their power and dominion over people because they read scriptures literally. I cannot emphasize enough that all scripture are symbolical readings in Hebrew and Greek, so they are far from easy to understand. The stories of the Bible represent locks and keys to consciousness, you can see my other video on the symbolism of the Bible.

All the stories of Christ are stories of being in a state of “I AM”, which means one is fully conscious and knows the truth and is not afraid of telling it. One knows that one’s body is merely a representation of the soul, but here lies a huge problem in communication because it is difficult to communicate about the invisible life of the soul to others who do not see it and believe in it. The “I AM” within is the one who sees many lost souls trapped in other people in the material confines of the material world. And as the one is free, he wants to free fellow humanity.

If the soul thinks it is the body, it creates a bondage to material things that is difficult to break (hence stories of locks in the Bible) and it is upheld by modes of entertainment to keep one away from meditating about the soul.

This is also where the conflict arises because there are other people on earth who has the same awareness, but the difference is that they are afraid and they serve only their own material benefits and do not benefit the good of the world. Those who create entertainment that upholds this material bondage are not serving anything because they are mostly not sharing the good message, but they are consciously or subconsciously trying to have people remain trapped in their body. They serve multiplicity of material manifestations of sense bondage, but Christ serves a unity of harmony and love that reverberates a better state for all because the messages of Christ can awake every soul and release them of material longings. Human beings that begin to reach a higher state of awareness begin to become afraid because they realize there is nothing to hold on to if one is only the material body. Thus, that which ignites consciousness and awakens Christ consciousness is the true divinity in man manifested and it is from here a creative love evolves life for the better. And for “the better” does not mean more material things or better technology or better entertainment, those things are okay, but they only serve one thing and that is to keep attention. Once attention is directed at itself at the right angle, it is possible to realize these higher states of consciousness through mediation and that eventually leads to Christ consciousness.

Peter is the rock where Jesus wants to build his church, but this is a symbolism that refers to many instances of the Bible. For instance, Jacob laid his head on a rock when he had a dream of a ladder going to heaven with angels ascending and descending and there he met God. This rock he called “Bethel” which means “House of God”, where Jacob said “…this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.” This verse is a reference to that ego consciousness is 10 percent of full awareness where the unconscious is 90 percent of awareness and giving up part of the ego will leave abundantly with more living ideas of the unconscious, we also see this reflection in Jesus and the fishermen which I will get back to. Moses also struck a rock twice to get the water. Here Moses actually forced spiritual knowledge to retain his ego consciousness by striking it twice, where if he had only struck it once he could have been waiting patiently afterwards for his abundance of living ideas. There are countless other references to rocks in the Bible, but the important thing is that the manifestation of the faculty that is Peter, which is faith, is like a rock as it is the foundation where Jesus builds his church. The church symbolizes nothing material when it is mentioned in the text. The rock is in the mind and even though it has a material connection to the brain the foundation is still an invisible mental faculty from the point of experience. In reality there is no difference between visible and invisible because they overlap and are one, but this is to discern between spiritual and material truths. Spiritual truths are good in the fullest dynamic existence in the mind, but material truths is the manifestation of them and therefore they are something settled and chosen. The true Christ church is not an outer material building, it is an aggregation of spiritual ideas in individual consciousness. These spiritual ideas will harmonize all other ideas in the mind in a way that there will be no conflict within or without. All will be one in the way that everything serves the right purpose in space and time from the best possible manifestation of an individual.

In the end of episode 4 season 1 we see Simon who had tried to fish all night with the help of his brother and friends to pay all of his debts. He fished until morning, and sails the boat to shore where he first thinks he sees the Romans are there to catch him, but it is Jesus teaching at the shore. This reflects that the faculties are not sure who they serve as they approach ego consciousness. The Romans represent those who uphold rules and laws that bind people to material belongings. The romans are tied to the disciple Matthew who as a tax collector represents the intellectual mind that calculates logically preferable outcomes of dispersing energy throughout the body. Interestingly, it also signifies a reversal where the unconscious uses its energy to serve the ego instead of letting the ego serve the unconscious. It is like the unconscious is paying taxes to the ego. We see that in the first episodes Matthew is still choosing to serve the romans, so the faculty is still tied to concerning itself with material things instead of spiritual learning. And Matthew is still not connected to strength and faith and to the center of being as Christ.

When Jesus teaches his first disciples at the shore, he is being the magnetic pull that aligns all ideas in their right place. The beach is the edge of the ego and the water is the unconscious. The island of the ego widens and opens up as more living ideas “represented by fish” are drawn to the shore. Here we see Peter and Andrew are drawn to the shore as they before were trapped in emotional states of feeling. Peter even admitted he was afraid in the episode and this draws him to a feeling state. The feeling function is represented as water because it mentally is the ability to sense if contents of the unconscious are a threat to the body or it leads to a security for the body. Like the sensation function of the body senses within if any part of your body is touched, the feeling function is the invisible opposite that senses if any ideas are a threat to one’s mind or if the ideas lead to safety. Ultimately one is saved through Christ because one does no longer need to worry about security or danger because one is at the right time and at the right place all the time in Christ. If something is a threat or a security from a standpoint of Christ consciousness is irrelevant because the feeling is concerning itself with temporal and spatial circumstances of the body and are therefore also material worries. Christ consciousness always puts truth first, here the mind follows the right order of truth as directed by Christ consciousness and the body will then react with feeling and senses regardless of the intentions because they want to preserve life through the body. A quick hint here is that the disciple Judah who betrays Christ is the faculty of life preservation and conservation. Nevertheless these senses and feeling can be directed with the mind also if one is in harmonious balance through mind, body and soul.

In the ending scenes Jesus has his back turned to Peter and Andrew as they sail on the water. This symbolizes that as Jesus is in a state of teaching his other faculties, among them is Mary who represents Jesus’ feeling function then Andrew and Peter are approaching from the unconscious of Jesus. Jesus has an ability to communicate with his unconscious and therefore can also teach contents of his unconscious to follow him. When he asks disciples to follow him, he is asking mental faculties to be directed with his attention so they are optimized with reality and are not sleeping or paying attention to material things instead.

Figure 1. Representation of Jesus at the Beach.

There is an interesting positioning of the disciples. The ones who are on the beach are of the ego consciousness, where the intellect, imagination, contradiction and order are on the conscious side. Jesus says that the disciples don’t hear him that well to Simon and Andrew, which means that they need strength and faith to function properly, or else they are led to material obsessions as we have seen with Matthew who is still working for the romans. Before Simon and Andrew hits the shore with their boat we see the future disciples James and John who represent judgment and love hitting the shore first. When Judgment and Love are reconciled at the shore of ego consciousness then the unconscious contents can communicate with each other and therefore Simon listens to Jesus instead of listening to his brother.

Jesus then tells Peter to cast his net to the right side even though Peter has fished all night. The right brain half generally deals with intuitions and imagination and are therefore excellent in dealing with the unknown. Simon initially doubts, but continues to do it. When the function of listening casts itself into the right brain half that deals with abstract things that are hard to relate to reality, it begins to understand the deepness of the true meaning of messages of the unconscious. Then Peter catches the biggest amount of fish they have ever seen and all his debts will be paid. This means that all the energy that is owed to material obsessions doesn’t matter because spiritual energy is activated through intuition and imagination. The symbol here is that the net is like perception that latches unto it ideas of the unconscious. When one is not in touch with the unconscious it is because material yearnings has directed spiritual energy outwardly instead of seeking the spiritual energy from within. Consequently Jesus is able to access his right brain half upon will and use his creative power. I can refer to the story of Joseph because he is an excellent example of the right brain half in action and how Joseph is initially betrayed by the left brain and cast over to the pharaoh, but then works his way through material thinking. Because of this fluency within and between the conscious ego and the unconscious there is an immediate transference of ideas upon request. Thus, the idea of casting the net to the right side and having abundant fish is the very true idea of realizing that we are capable of drawing upon a golden fountain of ideas within. From there it is possible to do anything because most people’s problems are that they have no faith in the ideas they try out and eventually quit them, so they are draining their fountain of ideas as they lack faith. Faith and strength are also necessary to execute the ideas into action. Therefore the story of Jesus telling Peter and Andrew to follow him and that he will make them fishers of men is the representation of strength and faith inside Jesus. The faculties of faith and strength are under his dominion and they are necessary for him to make others able to see the light within themselves.

The intro theme of The Chosen is also shown with fishes and fishes swimming in the opposite direction from the school of fish. The Chosen series also hopes to awaken as many as possible with the messages of The Bible and I hope that they also help people see the light within themselves.
