The Symbolic Universe welcomes thoughtful essays that investigate symbolism in stories, scripture, psychology, philosophy, religion, mythology, and culture.

The strongest submissions make a clear interpretive claim, stay close to the material being analyzed, and remain readable for people outside a specialist field.

EDITORIAL GUIDELINES

What we are looking for

Symbolism at the center

The article should investigate symbolic meaning rather than simply review or summarize its subject.

A clear argument

Show the reader what pattern you see, why it matters, and what in the source material supports the interpretation.

Accessible depth

Serious or academic ideas are welcome, but the writing should remain understandable to an interested general reader.

Sources where needed

Cite quotations, scholarship, historical claims, and other material that a reader should be able to verify.

Suggested length

Roughly 1,500–4,000 words is a useful range, but clarity matters more than hitting an exact number.

Original work

What can ancient symbols teach us about modern life? I hold a master’s degree in information science, but my deepest intellectual journey has been through Jungian psychology and biblical symbolism. My articles connect these traditions with familiar cultural works—especially popular films—to uncover timeless patterns of meaning. Through these patterns, I explore the psychological and spiritual questions that follow us throughout life. I believe symbolism carries the hard-won wisdom of our ancestors, offering strength and direction in a culture often dominated by rational thinking. Reason is an essential tool, but it should serve us—not rule us. Symbolism is a universal language, yet each of us encounters it personally.
